Head of logistics at Atea, Pål Bråthen, has full control over each and every package delivered to all employees at the company’s main branch. Upon receipt, all packages are registered using Scan App on a smartphone. A new bar code is assigned to them, and they can subsequently be tracked by the recipient.
The moment a package arrives at Atea’s goods reception unit, it is registered and an Email or SMS is automatically generated and sent to inform the recipient that the package has arrived. Employees expecting urgent consignments can go straight to the logistics centre on the first floor to collect the package.
No more couriers running around
Not only are they in full control; they no longer have couriers running around the place trying to find the right recipient. Because Atea‘s reception unit handles everything from parcels and courier deliveries to heavy goods delivered to the company.
“We are very pleased our system. We were already using Consignor for outbound packages when we decided to also try it out for internal logistics. Looking ahead, I could not imagine a situation without this overview”, says Pål Bråthen, who has been heading the Consignor effort at Atea.
Introduced at local offices
Due to the fine results with Consignor Inbound at the main branch, the company has introduced similar systems at the Brobekk warehouse in Oslo and the local offices in Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim.
“Thanks to this arrangement we are in total control of all deliveries to the premises. Receipt is acknowledged for all packages when collected, so if you are wondering what happened to your package, you just check its history”, says Pål Bråthen.
Uses free app for scanning
Atea has based it entire internal logistics system on Scan App – an app ready for download and installation on any smartphone. The app is free, so there is no need for costly investments. You use your smartphone to scan the bar code, which is automatically stored in the Consignor portal in the Cloud.
The app uses the telephone camera as a scanner. Handling many packages every day, Atea has chosen to invest in a small wireless scanner that sends the information to the telephone via Bluetooth before it is stored in the Consignor portal.
All transactions scanned using the app can be retrieved in Consignor, regardless of whether you have installed the programme or use the web-based version.
Bråthen rounds off by pointing out another reason why it is important to be in control of internal logistics: “Now and then our employees actually forget to pick up their packages. When packages have been lying around for too long, we can easily remind the recipients to pick up their packages, allowing us to free up more space”.
