60 of our 300 daily shipments are categorized as dangerous goods shipments. So we have a large amount of dangerous goods documentation every day, that we need to make sure is updated correctly and sent to the carriers. In order for us not to drown in documentation work we have chosen to automate the entire dangerous goods shipping process by using Dangerous Goods in Consignor.

This is how we ship dangerous goods easily and efficiently

Extensive documentation and EDI transfer makes it confusing and time consuming to ship dangerous goods. But this is not the case for Finnish Motoral who on a daily basis ships gasoline, car batteries and aerosols hassle free to stores, workshops and consumers in Finland and Estonia.

When companies and online retailers ship dangerous goods, they have to document all the details of the shipment to the carrier, including material name, danger category, UN number, etc. This is necessary so that the carrier knows how to handle the dangerous goods. All this documentation is burdensome and time consuming, which Finnish auto parts wholesaler Motoral recognizes and has therefore implemented a solution.

“60 of our 300 daily shipments are categorized as dangerous goods shipments. This means that we have a large amount of dangerous goods documentation every day, that we need to make sure is updated correctly and sent to the carriers. In order for us not to drown in documentation work we have chosen to automate the entire dangerous goods shipping process by using Dangerous Goods in Consignor, ” comments,  Jussi Vuorela, Logistics Planner at Motoral.

Dangerous Goods in Consignor automates the printing for all dangerous goods documentation that Motoral needs, while transferring the required EDI to their carriers. The only thing Motoral has to do is to set up their dangerous goods articles in the online catalog DG Office, which acts as a database and validation of their dangerous goods. This way, Motoral saves manual working hours, and is secured against potential fines and avoidable accidents due poor documentation.

“It is crucial for us that our delivery management software supports dangerous goods. Consignor does this as the only delivery management provider on the market. Consignor not only helps us with dangerous goods. We experience many other advantages by using Consignor for all our shipments, ” comments,  Jussi Vuorela, Logistics Planner at Motoral.

Software that makes customers and employees happy

Motoral’s customers require fast, reliable, cheap and trackable deliveries. Track & Trace is must for Motoral’s online shop customers. Motoral is able to meet all these demands with Consignor. Jussi Vuorela explains:

“We reduce our customers’ shipping costs when they buy multiple items, because we automatically consolidate their orders in Consignor. Consignor also allows us to track & trace as well as gather our daily outbound shipment volume reports. This way we collect statistics on our outbound flow and pre-advice this to the carriers allowing us to keep shipping prices low as there are no surprises. ”

Motoral’s warehouse and customer service also use Consignor for their outbound shipments.

“Our warehouse employees spend much less time on shipping parcels because they don’t need to print labels and shipping documents manually as well as book shipments in different carrier systems. Consignor does this automatically in one overall system. Our customer service also has the ability to track parcels quickly in Consignor Portal, which is continually updated with information on the parcel’s status. The Portal makes us proactive in notifying customers if their parcel is delayed. Track & Trace functionality is a huge plus, ” Jussi Vuorela concludes.
